Radiologists were not replaced in 2021 and aren’t on track to be replaced in 2026. Performance will undoubtedly improve over the long term, but–despite what Hinton argued–it’s not “obviously” on track to take over by 2026. Foundation models for medical imaging could help, but will be hard to create.
