Minimally Invasive Strategies for Symptomatic Dropped Gallstones

JVIR

Acute calculus cholecystitis affects approximately 10%–20% of individuals with symptomatic gallstones, often necessitating laparoscopic or robotic cholecystectomy as the gold standard. Although effective, this procedure carries risks of bile leak, biliary stricture, retained common bile duct stones, and dropped gallstones (DGs). Approximately 6%–7% of laparoscopic cholecystectomy cases result in DGs, with about 8.5% of these cases becoming symptomatic (1,2).
