Proton Radiotherapy to Treat Oesophageal Cancer

milla1cf Thu, 08/17/2023 - 12:07 August 17, 2023 — A 67-year old patient presenting with oesophageal cancer was treated at the Paul Scherrer Institute ( PSI ) with a form of radiation provided by protons, i.e. positively charged particles. This is the first time this type of radiotherapy has been used in Switzerland to treat an oesophageal tumour. The five-week course of treatment is part of a European clinical trial involving both PSI and University Hospital Zurich.

Can an Emerging PET Radiotracer Be a Viable Alternative to Multiparametric MRI for Detecting Prostate Cancer Recurrence?

In an analysis of patients with intraprostatic/prostate bed findings of biochemical prostate cancer recurrence, the use of 18F-DCFPyL PET/CT led to an 82.3 percent cancer detection rate in comparison to 80 percent for multiparametric MRI, according to research presented at the recent Society for Nuclear Medicine and Molecular Imaging (SNMMI) conference.
