Metabolic MRI technique shows promise in Alzheimer’s patients

AuntMinnie

DMI can be performed with the same MRI scanner that supplies standard structural images, the authors explained. Similar to F-18 FDG-PET, the technique targets glucose metabolism specifically its downstream metabolites, lactate (Lac), glutamate and glutamine (Glx), which function abnormally in Alzheimers disease.

PET/MRI rules out tau protein in late-life depression

AuntMinnie

A PET/MRI study has provided insights into the neurobiology of late-life depression, with researchers reporting that tau protein – a key protein involved in Alzheimer’s disease – does not appear to be involved in the condition. However, further studies are needed to determine if tau PET scans could help play a role, they noted.
