In one of our studies, we took tissue from patients with NSF and did electron microscopy with x-ray dispersion analysis to try to determine whether gadolinium was actually in the tissue that was biopsied. In a worst-case scenario, gadolinium-based contrast agents could wind up in the same unenviable position as other pharmaceuticals.
